Degree in Accounting vs Financial Services; which do you recommend?

  1. Deregulation in the 90’s (Gramm-Leach Bliley Act) allows a lot of jobs in this field to be done without regulation by govt.

Possible jobs are Claims Adjuster, Bank Teller, Credit Collector or counsellor, Financial Advisor etc.

Starting Salary is $25 k yearly plus bonus and commisions. According to BLS the median can vary between 29k – 120k (presumably due to bonus structures)

Accounting is similar in structure but typically your doing more ‘bean-counting’ functions such as Payroll, Tax Prep, Receivables or Payables. I’m not sure how stable the job market overall but when you consider money will always be changing hands it would seem that prospect are good for you either way you go.

    Best of luck.
